Tim Davies

Onboard Solar is run by sole trader Tim Davis and has been trading for 6 years. Tim developed the Onboard Solar System for his own boat originally as a high output bespoke system designed with the live aboard boater in mind. Tim has lived aboard for 19 years and is currently resident upon the 1940 Lister CE2 engine equipped replica BCN tug "Helios".

Tim is a time served boat builder specialising in the engineering and electrics side of the trade and was a founding member of Big Fish Narrowboats in Gloucester. Onboard Solar is based at Dobsons Boat Yard at Shardlow. Tim has a number of published articles on the excellent "Living on a Narrowboat" site that talk about narrowboat systems, and also appears as a presenter in Active 8 films DVD "A Guide to Buying and Owning a Narrowboat" .

The Green Machine

Tim uses a specially adapted vehicle for all installations affectionately known as ‘The Green Machine’. This is a VW T4 transporter that has been converted into a camper van with bespoke storage for solar stock and tooling. It Has also been converted to run on bio diesel. For those weeks that are full of long distance installs, Tim heads to the first installation then overnights in The Green Machine enabling the next morning installation to start bright and early before heading off to the next installation in the afternoon. The Green Machine also allows for Tim to arrive the night before and installation, on the large 660 and 990 watt options where a pre survey the night before aids the speed of the installation the following morning.

The Junkyard Angels

Tim is also a bass player for well known Derby based blues band "Junkyard Angels" performing blues and old style rock and roll at venues all over the Midlands.

The Junkyard Angels The Junkyard Angels

Junkyard Angels also host the weekly band jam night at the excellent Smithy's Marina Bar on a Thursday. A recommended watering hole for anyone visiting Shardlow!
